Chapter 7: "
Hi Friends—as you know I have never lived in a house before. So, I’m enjoying learning about life in a house. Let me tell you about this wonderful place I’ve found. I don’t know if there is one in every house, but my house has one. It is called…a kitchen! There is this closet with food in it and a silver box with food in it. It is amazing! There are wonderful smells in there. Even though my appetite is not great, I do love to lay in there and just sniff the sniffs. So when momma is cooking I just lay right there in the middle of the kitchen and sleep. You can have wonderful food dreams when you sleep in a kitchen.
Our house has another super cool thing, a giant dog bed that we share with momma and daddy. It’s kind of tall and has special dog steps that go up to it. I’m not strong enough to go up the steps so momma lifts me up. My three Basset sisters and I like to go up there to sleep with momma and daddy. If momma or daddy are taking up too much room we just work to push them to the side of the bed so we have enough room. You’d be surprised at how much room they try to take up in that bed. Sometimes they act like it’s their bed or something!
You’ve heard the joke about the guy who walks into the bar? How about the hound who walked into the pool? This house I live in has a pool in the back yard. I thought it was just a huge water dish. I always stayed away from it, but one night I was kind of thirsty. Momma was outside with me (she never leaves me outside alone) in her nightgown watering her plants. I leaned in to take a drink and I leaned a little too far and fell in! So my momma jumped right in behind me. I didn’t realize she liked to swim in her nightgown at night, but she does! Turns out I’m a very good swimmer and momma said that swim took the place of my bath for the night.
I’ve learned a lot living in a house for a week don’t you think?" - Corley, to be continued...
